According to the crisis center statistics, up to 70% of women file reports of rape with law enforcement, but only 1% of sexual violence cases reach a verdict. 736 million women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence. More than 640 million (87%) women and girls aged 15 and older have suffered from aggressive actions by their partners. 1 in 4 families in Russia has experienced domestic violence. Based on data from 2000-2018, more than one in four (27%) ever-partnered women aged 15-49 years has experienced physical, sexual, or both forms of intimate partner violence since the age of 15. It is estimated that 38-50% of the murders of women are committed by intimate partners globally. In 2019, researchers at St. Petersburg State University conducted a survey revealing that women are victims in 75% of domestic violence cases in Russia. When it comes to spousal violence, the proportion of female victims reaches 91%. According to recent data from the Consortium of Women’s Non-Governmental Associations, over 70% of all murders of women in Russia in 2020-2021 were committed by their partners or relatives. 40% of serious violent crimes in Russia are committed within families. 79% of women convicted of intentional homicide were defending themselves from domestic violence. 56% of sexual violence victims begged for mercy from the perpetrator, 22% resisted and screamed, while others froze in terror. 12% of sexual violence victims report to law enforcement. 1 in 4 Every fourth girl in the world experiences sexualized violence before the age of 18. In 2021, 71% of women’s murders were committed by husbands, both current and former. Annually, about 325,000 pregnant women face domestic abuse. Pregnant women experience the highest rate of domestic violence compared to other demographics. The number of cases of women being beaten by their partners is about 36,000 per day. According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, more than 400,000 cases of domestic violence were registered in 2023, and these are only the officially reported cases. Girls whose fathers beat their mothers are 6.5 times more likely to suffer sexual abuse from their fathers than girls from non-violent families. One in four domestic violence victims does not tell anyone about it, and only one in ten victims reports it to the police, with few cases reaching court. 12% of men responded that it is acceptable to hit their wives under certain circumstances (2019). 40% of Russians surveyed said they encountered sexual violence in childhood. 13.5 years is the average age of entry into prostitution in Russia.
