Barred Hawks (Leucopternis princeps) are amongst the most common hawks of the reserve. They can be observed circling over the reserve almost every day. When in the air they are pretty vocal and therefore easy to find. Observing them in trees is somewhat more difficult. In October 2020 we got lucky and stumbled a across an individual about 4 kilometers from the lodge at an elevation of .
