The Estonian Hound. As mysterious as her namesake land Estonia, and as much of a well kept secret. She’s pretty laid back, like Estonians, she’s kind and loves the family, like Estonians and is extremely well-mannered, , the Japanese? Indoors she’s calm and personable around the house, with the occasional burst of excitement, that can be forgiven. Outdoors she a hunter’s favourite, with a gorgeous hunting voice and sturdy build that carries her gracefully across the open countryside. She’s a real people’s dog, and without good training can get quite upset when you leave her alone. She’s fantastic with children and most other pets too. A lover of routine and stability, she won’t suit families that are always away. This dog is really easy to groom, give her a bath when you think it’s time, but she needs very little other care; and doesn’t lose too much hair either. Bred for long hunting trips, she’ll need good daily walks though, just keep her on a leash to get her used to voice commands… and to stop her taking off on a scent! Interesting fact: She’s probably the only specific breed developed in Estonia, so by default you could say she’s the ‘national breed’. Her heritage is based on a whole range of hunting hounds, including the English foxhound, Swiss hound and the Polish-Russian hound. The Estonian Hound. A little known alternative you might really quite like.
