Sea anemones were named after the terrestrial flowers, anemones, which the invertebrates resemble. Sea anemones may look like underwater flowers, but they are animals and consume mostly other animals in order to provide their bodies with nourishment. Sea anemones are stinging animals like jellyfish and their tentacles release nematocysts in order to stun and paralyze prey. Some animals are immune to these stinging cells like clownfish who may utilize sea anemones as protection from predators.
