Visit Visit our website Made by the Aenta Insurance Company in 1953, “Learning to Shift and Steer“ is a silent driver's education film. The car featured appears to be a Ford, probably a 1953 Ford Sunliner, which featured a shifter on the steering column. Column shifters were developed in the late 1930s but were more or less put to the wayside by the auto industry, as they were not ergonomic, and were unnecessary once bench seating became passe.
