The Monongah Mine Disaster in Monongah, WV was the biggest mine disaster in American history and has also been listed as the greatest industrial accident in American history. The official total dead the day of December 6, 1907 was 361, but most estimates put the numbers closer to 500 to 550 men and boys who died.
