Try out Onshape! The state of the art cloud-based CAD solution: Direct drive is all the rage! Most of the users want direct drive extrusion. The reasons for and against bowden have been discussed many, many times. For bed slingers and most bigger scale printers it’s a no-brainer: Direct Drive all the way. On CoreXY printers like RatRig, 2.4 or VzBot for example, the weight share of the extruder is rather low in most cases. So, it makes a lot of sense to go for direct drive on these. But what about the Voron Zero or 0.2 ? Super small scale, a very short bowden path and initially, with its first instalment, the Voron 0.0 was made for bowden extrusion. The latest instalment of the Voron Zero, the Voron0.2, comes with an all new bowden toolhead and the night watch, an update of the pocket watch 1 and pocket watch 2. This is a great opportunity to elaborate on this once and for all: Would you really be better off building a bowden Voron0.2? Let’s give a differentiated answer to that question and dive deeper on this with multiple tests!
