The population is made up of the most diverse ethnicities. In its beginnings, it was made up of Portuguese explorers, drovers and illustrious families coming mainly from São Paulo. From the beginning of the 20th century, Slavs (Russians, Poles and Ukrainians), Arabs, Italians, Japanese, Dutch and Germans settled, with Germans and Slavs being the most numerous. Ponta Grossa is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Paraná, of which it is the fourth most populous, with 358,367 inhabitants, according to the 2022 census. It has the ninth largest population in the South of Brazil and the seventy-sixth in the country. Located in the Second Plateau of Paraná, it is the nucleus of Campos Gerais do Paraná, which has a population of over 1,100,000 inhabitants (IBGE/2014) and the largest industrial park in the interior of the state. With an area of 2,054,732 km², Ponta Grossa is known as the Princess of Campos and the Civic Capital of Paraná, in addition to receiving the title of Beer Capital of Paraná. The road distance to Curitiba, the state administrative capital, is 103 kilometers, and to Brasília, the federal capital, is 1,320 kilometers.
