Mary-Margaret Noland, MD, is a general dermatologist with a special interest in complex medical dermatology. Learn more: I’m a dermatologist at the University of Virginia. We see complex medical dermatology patients, high-risk skin cancer patients, and then we see more common conditions at UVA as well, such as acne and warts. We treat cosmetic lesions, and we do surgical dermatology, as well. I grew up in a family full of physicians, but wasn’t really interested in medicine at first, and then throughout volunteer experiences through college, it became something that almost was a calling. Dermatology offers the ability to have continuity of care and see patients over a long period of time, develop relationships. And then it covers a lot of the other specialties that you think about. So, we see children, so we have a little niche in pediatrics. We see geriatric patients, or older patients. We can see surgical patients, and so, when I rotated through dermatology, I feel in love with it because I could do it all and have my patients that come back to me again and again. UVA offers cutting-edge treatments and is up-to-date on all of the literature. We have experts in every field of dermatology, and so it offers an experience beyond what you can get outside of an academic center.
