This dance for camera was choreographed by American Ballet Theatre’s principal dancer, James Whiteside, and filmed and edited by 3rd year dancer, Joan Dwiartanto, on Juilliard’s Peter Jay Sharp Theater stage. “Marilyn’s Funeral” came into being at a time of exhaustion by the monotony of the pandemic. At such a moment, Whiteside’s subconscious need for peace and beauty resulted in a choreography that invites the viewer to feel sadness and peacefulness simultaneously, evoking the same emotions one might connect to a funeral. The piece’s title also seemingly references Marilyn Monroe, a public figure whose cause of death remains mysterious. Music: Claude Debussy’s Arabesque No. 1. Andantino con moto Werner Haas, Piano (1993 Recording) Like us on Facebook: Follow us on Twitter: Follow us on Instagram:
