It is basically a modified B33 “Zimbru“ 8x8 wheeled armored vehicle; a BTR-80 copy, that was initially called the Zimbru 2006, its code number represents its first year of development. In 2008, an improved version with a redesigned nose section, new engine, and bigger wheels was presented in a military exhibition in Bucharest, designated Saur-2.
