Oyfn Pripetshik (אױפֿן פּריפּעטשיק) was written by the Ukrainian Yiddish poet and composer Mark Warshawsky (b. Odessa 1848, d. Kiev 1907). The song is set in a mid-nineteenth-century 'cheder', a Jewish schoolhouse, where the Rabbi is teaching his pupils the 'alef-beys'. It quickly became one of the most famous and well-known Yiddish songs across the world. Oyfn Pripetshik is sung here by Meg T., following a performance by Choral Scholars at the Holocaust Memorial Service in St Mary's Priory Church in January. Arrangement: E. Reed.
