China’s movie market has a robust start in 2024 with a strong Spring Festival performance. The box office returns of the eight-day Lunar New Year holiday exceeded 8 billion yuan, or about $ billion. Domestic titles lead the chart, most of which are comedies. In fact, in 2023, no Hollywood movie has squeezed into the top 10 earners in China, which only happened once during the COVID-19 pandemic back in 2020.
