Oral cavity, or a oral pouch contains generally contains 3 major salivary glands and several minor salivary glands in order to secrete a saliva to keep the oral cavity a moisture and as a lubricant in case of speaking and mastication, chewing, deglutition and other oro functional and other para functional activity. Whereas in case of less secretions or decreased secretions of saliva into the oral cavity, the patient complaints of a dryness or a xerostomic region. So, dryness or xerostomia is mainly because of decreased secretions of saliva or in complete absence of salivary secretions from the salivary glands. So many causes are, local factors and general factors. The main causes are the side effects of some kind of medications, like in case of treating the patients with depressions, and anxiety, in case of pain, in case of allergies and in case of cold like anti- histamines and decongestants and also in case of vomiting and also in case of nausea, and in case of psychiatric disorders and Alzheimer’s disorders and in case of bronchodilators and in case of effects of other using the muscle relaxants. Treating the patients with stress disorders and also other cause of dryness of the mouth is also mainly because of the certain conditions like medical treatments . In case of radiotherapy and in case of chemotherapy and surgical removal of the salivary glands and nerve damage to the head and neck and also in case of dehydrations like diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and blood loss, severe burns to the head and neck regions and also in case of chronic smokers, chronic alcohol and other kind of anti depression agents and also in case of parkinson’s patients. When the patient complaints of the dryness of the mouth or in case of xerostomic patients , we can deal with, or we can treat it by using by giving them an artificial saliva, you are treating with the fluoride toothpastes, fluoride mouthwashes asking the patient to drink lot of water and also regular checkup to the dentist and sweetless, sugarless candies and sugarless chewing gums and also applying the wet kind of mouthwashes or duostum like commercial kind of products available in the market to encourage the stimulating of salivary glands and also by using the room vapourisers to maintaining the proper moisture to the surrounding environment and also quitting the smoking, avoiding the alcohol, proper room temperatures to avoid the excess of sweating.
