So, the fight between Vasyl Lomachenko and Roman “Rocky“ Martinez took place on June 11th, 2016, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This bout was for the WBO Super Featherweight title and showcased Lomachenko's extraordinary skills against a seasoned and experienced Martinez in this boxing workout. Now Vasyl Lomachenko is widely regarded as one of the best technical boxers of his generation, and his footwork is a cornerstone of his brilliance in the ring. Guys, you have to understand that with footwork, there's technique; so what you learn in the gym, there's adaptation; how you might respond to your opponent in a dangerous situation, and then there's improvisation; so what you do that might break or challenge convention to deceive and take advantage of your opponent. Now what I can tell you is that when you watch the footwork of most boxers, a lot of them still struggle with technique, but with Loma, because of his superior coordination, advanced agility, and the vast degrees of freedom he possesses within his balance... whenever he moves across the canvas of the ring its like watching a maestro go to work So in the fight Martinez was the champion at the time, and he had a record of 29 wins, 2 losses, and 3 draws... Martinez actually beat Orlando Salido to acquire the belt, and Salido, on paper, beat Loma... so Martinez was no slouch in the ring! Now this fight is particularly special for Loma because he moved up from Featherweight to take the WBO Super Featherweight title in one fight. Guys, there is a chance that we may see a Loma vs Tank Davis fight, perhaps during 2025. I would definitely be up for watching such a unification bout in the Lightweight division. I'm sure that fight will send shockwaves across the division to those thinking of moving up from the weight class below and also to some of the guys at Super Lightweight checking out future competitors.
