China-affiliated hackers sanctioned after attacks on UK democracy, Dowden confirms

China-affiliated hackers attempted to attack UK democratic institutions, Oliver Dowden has claimed. The deputy prime minister said the hackers, allegedly directed by the Chinese state, attempted to hack the Electoral Register and UK Parliamentary accounts over the past few years. Mr Dowden announced sanctions for “two individuals and one entity associated with the Chinese state“.
