Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur has announced she would donate part of her Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Finals prize money to Palestinians currently enduring Israel’s brutal military campaign on Gaza. Jabeur choked back tears as she spoke on the court last night after earning her first win by avenging her Wimbledon final defeat to Marketa Vondrousova at the season-ending championships in Cancun, Mexico. Later, in her post-match press conference, the 29-year-old said it had been a challenge to focus on tennis and that it had been difficult to get much sleep after watching “horrible” photos and videos from the war in Gaza. At least 9,061 people, including 3,760 children, have been killed in Gaza by Israel's relentless bombardment since the militant group Hamas carried out deadly attacks in Israel on 7 October.
