LAST WEEKS EPISODE! This week we focus on learning how to 'Opposite Tailwhip' on a scooter or sometimes referred to as a 'Heelwhip'. Root Industries Pro Rider Matty Ceravolo, takes you through the steps to help you add this one to your trick list! Step 0.5: If you’ve remembered in one of our last episodes, I mentioned this is something that will occur in all of our tutorials and that is being able to bunny hop or get enough height out of a ramp! Step 1: Learn and Practice the motion Now a heel whip is very much the same as a tailwhip, the only difference is that it is generally thrown & caught with your heels. For most, this may also be an opposite tailwhip depending on which way you prefer to naturally tailwhip To establish if you naturally heel whip or normal whip, it’s as simple as which way your the whip goes, whether that is toward or away from your heels. Step 2: Practise the motion As this may feel a little unnatural for you, to begin with, you are going to need to practise the motion of the trick to get familiar with it. This can be done by simply spinning your scooter on flat ground in a safe area. To do this motion the easiest way possible, you are going to flick the tailwhip with your HEELS to really get the motion started and use your arms to finish it. Focus on where the heel whip so you’re can spot it coming around and put your feet out to catch it. Step 3: Attempting the trick Now that you have an understanding on how to do the trick and have practised the motion, it’s time to start attempting it and putting the first two steps to the test!! One of the main differences with a heel whip compared to a normal tailwhip is it can sometimes flick oddly when coming out of a ramp so ensure you have enough height to do it when you are actually in the air. It may take a few attempts to get this right so be patient and make adjustments where needed. Step 4: Practise! The Fourth and final step is going to be the same as EVERY EPISODE..... PRACTISE! As with any new trick, sometimes it can take many attempts before landing or even getting the hang of a trick. This is a trick I would personally suggest trying this on flat ground first before out of a ramp as you may become comfortable with it quicker. Instagram; @rootindustries @mattyceravolo
