Alon Liel, former director general at the Israel’s Foreign Ministry, says the feeling in Israel when Hezbollah leader Nasrallah was killed few weeks ago was that the war was over. He said the belief was that Hezbollah would collapse after his death, but it did not happen. “The fighting is still going on and Israel lost 10 soldiers in the last 24 hours. The reality is hitting us again in the face” the former diplomat said, stressing that the situation in the conflict is very much affected by the upcoming presidential election in the US next month.
