Learn easy-to-do beginner’s vintage swing dancing in this free 10 minute instruction video. No, this isn’t Lindy Hop (though of course, I do have Lindy Hop videos up on this channel already!), and this isn’t Rockabilly Jiving (there are already a good number of excellent instructional videos up on that British take on 1950’s partnered dancing here on You Tube.) This is an East Coast Swing video for beginners, BUT, East Coast Swing as danced on U.S./American after-school tv dance shows (like “American Bandstand“) between the years 1956 to 1962, and done, not in the usual “triple-time“ step, but in the rarely taught “double-time“ step (which does take practice, but also is easier to “pull off“ and execute, under pressure, to faster music. Basic footwork, basic lead and follow concepts, and the inside turn are covered. (There are obviously more than one turn in this dance, but if you get this turn, the rest of the turns follow the same basic concepts outlined here in this video.) This does require a partner, and, as we are currently “in-shelter,“ this is a fun and easy to follow 10 minute intro for couples who would like to learn some basic swing dancing, while in the comfort of their home. This video was originally shot in 2013, so excuse the grainy picture quality and lighting (we all have to start somewhere, but hey, it’s FREE, so there!) It was originally shared to a Facebook event page years ago, after we taught for a vintage 1950’s and early ’60’s record hop. It’s been re-edited somewhat, and is making it’s YouTube debut here, 7 years after it was originally recorded. More swing dance videos, including Lindy Hop and Collegiate Shag, will be coming soon.
