Dmitry Bivol faced late replacement Malik Zinad on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia to defend his WBA light heavyweight championship. Both fighters put their undefeated records on the line in Riyadh. Despite a few promising moments from Libyan fighter Zinad, Bivol delivered a clinical performance to secure a routine win. Bivol stopped Zinad in the sixth round, showcasing his skill and dominance in defending his WBA light heavyweight belt. Originally, Bivol was set to headline the event against Artur Beterbiev, who holds the IBF, WBO, and WBC belts at 175 lbs. However, an injury to Beterbiev led to Zinad stepping in on short notice. Although Zinad entered the fight undefeated in 22 professional bouts and holding the IBO and WBC Mediterranean titles, he was considered the underdog. However, upsets can occur when favorites become complacent, especially with last-minute changes to training plans and opponents. The fight took place before Daniel Dubois’ heavyweight clash with Filip Hrgovic, separate from the 5 vs 5 competition between Queensberry and Matchroom. Zinad was knocked down in the first round but quickly got back on his feet. He rallied in the second round, showing he was not out of his depth, though Bivol patiently waited for his opportunities. By the third round, Bivol had Zinad defending in the corner with blood coming from his nose. Zinad might have won the fourth round, which saw a surprising turn when the fighters bumped heads and exchanged words after the bell, requiring the referee to intervene and issue warnings. In the sixth round, Bivol increased the pace, cornering Zinad and landing a series of blows. The referee stepped in with a minute remaining, ending the fight to prevent further damage to Zinad. Bivol now looks ahead to a potential defense later in the year, with his sights set on Beterbiev’s return and a long-anticipated undisputed matchup. The rescheduled fight was confirmed in the ring for October 12. Both fighters are regarded as the best in the division, with Beterbiev boasting a 100% stoppage record despite being 39 years old. Bivol, on the other hand, remains one of the few men to defeat Canelo Alvarez, having thoroughly outclassed him in their light heavyweight : The following video is for entertainment and informational purposes only.
