A week in the life of managing the 17,000-gallon display at PoloReef Over the past year, we have given you glimpses of what goes on behind the scenes at PoloReef. In this brief video, we tried to capture what happens during a typical reef managing this tank. We show what it takes to do a team dive where we not only show how we go about photographing and shooting videos of the tank underwater, it is more challenging than it looks, but we also show how we add and attach pieces. But even more fun is the portion of us feeding the fish and having them swarm around us while being fed. It is an experience that needs to be viewed to be appreciated. This tank has a lot of maintenance, so we showed what replacing the GFO, which we do regularly, entails. There is also a glimpse of our new wet lab, on which we broke ground; this is where even more elaborate water testing and fish and coral pathology will be done. Since we quarantined all fish and corals in grow-out systems adjacent to the lab, we even showed or added 16 new corals. And while it is not sexy, our weekly water change which can be a significant undertaking is demonstrated. It shows how good planning makes even this mundane task more fun. And from a planning standpoint, the section on setting up the aquascape for the 300 outside of the tank should inspire anyone setting up a new tank and how to plan the aquascape better. And this was easy compared to what we shared about setting up the new 2500-gallon system. We had a visit with Lou from Tropic Marin and the fine folks at AlgaeBarn. And finally, there is an emergency dive. It was also interesting to see what happens in just a week of managing PoloReef. *************************** ☛ SUBSCRIBE for the latest *************************** ☘ GIVEAWAYS more!
