Amebiasis is a gastrointestinal infection caused by a number of different species of Amoeba, specifically the species entamoeba histolytica. Entamoeba histolytica Infection by this amoeba can cause of wide variety of symptoms in particular patients, which include bloody diarrhea, liver abscesses among other symptoms. In this lesson, we discuss the life cycle of entameba histolytica, how it infects patients, how it causes tissue damage within the intestines, what signs and symptoms it causes, and how we can treat it.
