With engrossing crime fiction heavily informed by his experience as the head of ER at St. Paul’s Hospital in downtown Vancouver, Daniel Kalla has built up an international reputation as a masterful suspense writer and humanist storyteller. In a special online Writers Fest event, Kalla will speak with National Newspaper Awards winner and Globe and Mail Western Arts Correspondent Marsha Lederman in a dynamic discussion around his work, both in the ER and on the page. In particular, they’ll look at his 2007 novel “Pandemic,“ which seemed to forecast our current crisis, and Kalla’s newest work, “The Last High,“ which follows a Vancouver doctor and a detective as they confront the deadly consequences of the opioid crisis while tracking down fentanyl suppliers after a group of teens land in the ER with life-threatening overdoses.
