A high rate of magma is continuing to build at a site underneath the Reykjanes volcano approximately 3.5 kilometers north-northwest of the town of Grindavik. The sheer duration of this volcanic unrest has led some people to speculate that a volcanic eruption is imminent. Yet is this actually the case? This video discusses what we do know about the current volcanic unrest and how it compares to past historical intrusions of molten rock from the same Reykjanes volcano. Note: This video is not trying to imply anything positive or negative about the Blue Lagoon, the Svartsengi Geothermal Power Plant, and/or Grindavik. Instead, it is merely attempting to answer a question a member of my audience asked me. A special thanks and also please subscribe to: @JustIcelandic, who graciously allowed me to use his drone footage published in one of his YouTube videos.
