The SdKfz 2 Kettenkrad was designed by NSU in 1939 as an air-portable tractor to pull supply trailers and light guns. They were first seen by the Allies during the airborne invasion of Crete in May 1941. Turning the handlebars activates steering brakes on the tracks rather than steering directly, so the machine can operate without the front wheel.
