This recipe of a rose-infused wine comes to us from the 4th century CE, from a medical doctor called Oreibasios, who was the physician of the Roman-Byzantine emperor Julian the Apostate. His various recipes of infused wines that he published in his Medical Collections are destined to balance and strengthen the body. You need: good red wine, comestible rose petals, honey and two months time. Stay tuned - there are much more historical recipes to come on this culinary archaeology channel. In these little videos I focus on easy-to-reproduce recipes (“try this at home“). For complex historical dishes and cooking techniques or a full feast visit me for one of my historical cooking workshops in Puglia: And if you like, visit my website at . You can find more recipes in one of my historical cookbooks “GARUM - Recipes from the Past“ or “From Eden to Jerusalem: Recipes from the Time of the Bible“.
