Alexander Karpenko is a poet, novelist, essayist, TV presenter, author-performer, Afghan veteran. He graduated from a specialized English school and a music school in the piano class. Alexander began to compose poems and songs being a schoolboy. In 1980 he entered a one-year course at the Military Institute of foreign languages, studied dari (Farsi). At the end of the course he was assigned to Afghanistan as a military translator (1981). In 1984, he was demobilized for health reasons with the rank of senior Lieutenant. For his service, Alexander was awarded the order of the red Star, the Afghan order of the Star of the 3rd degree, the military order of St. Nicholas, orders of merit, medals, and badges of honor. In 1984 he entered the Literary Institute named after A. M. Gorky, at the same time he began publishing in thick literary magazines.
