The city contains many beautiful buildings, and it is the terminus point of the extraordinary engineering achievement of the Erie Canal. The canal that was built well before the US Civil War and the so called Second Industrial Revolution according to the mainstream account. The city was the site of the 1901 World's Fair-Pan American Exposition which seemed to give an image of events of the previous century and set the stage for the next century.
