(23 Sep 1970) RR7038 GUERRILLA HIJACKINGS DEADLINE AT DAWSON'S FIELD At p.m. on Sunday 6th September 1970, a Boeing 707 of Trans World Airways, flying from Frankfurt to New York, was hijacked over Belgium and forced to fly to Jordan. Within the next four hours, three more attempts followed - two of them successful. Responsibility for them was claimed by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine which eventually assembled three airliners - together with passengers and crew - at a “Revolution Airstrip“ in the desert north-east of Amman. A threat was issued that both planes and passengers would be blown up if the guerrillas' demands, which included the freeing of Palestinian prisoners, were not met. This report tells the story of the dramatic week which followed, culminating in the destruction of the three planes.
