The Ro-d-ys is a beatband from Oude Pekela, the Netherlands, that had success in the late 1960’s in the Netherlands with compositions by Harry Rijnbergen. Originally the RO-D-YS had been successful under the name’ Popular Pipers Boys Band’ as a cover group in the area of Oude Pekela in Groningen. Their repertoire consisted of their own songs plus material by The Kinks, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The original line-up was Harry Rijnbergen (vocals, guitar), Joop Hulzebos (guitar, keyboards), Wigger Kenter (bass guitar, trumpet, vibraphone) and Bennie Groen (drums). When the group turned professional, Harry Rijnbergen changed the name to the more catchy Rowdies. As it turned out that several bands had that name, the final spelling became RO-D-YS. The single ’Take Her Home’ entered the Top 40 in May 1966 and reached to no 3. The successor, ’Just Fancy’ also reached the Top 10 at no 8. This track ’Sleep sleep sleep’ was recorded for the AVRO tv-program ’Techniek, je vriend of je vijand’ of January 6, 1968. It was released as a single and reached to no. 40 in the Dutch Top 40.
