The UK has seen the “politicisation of race” in recent years, which Labour will do nothing to reverse, Tom Tugendhat has said. The Tory leadership candidate said: “After years of militant identity politics, much of it imported, we have seen the politicisation of race by extremists and thugs. He criticised a proposal to create a formal definition of Islamophobia as “creating a blasphemy law for one faith” that would undermine free speech and “protect extremists from scrutiny and investigation”.
