Wow, it hard to belive that this one was released today April 28, back in 1979 almost 40 years ago, it seems like only McFadden and John Whitehead formed The Epsilons as teenagers and were discovered by Otis Redding who managed them and brought them along on his tours. After Redding's death in 1967, they continued on in the music business beginning a fruitful association with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff as writers in 1972. Their debut single went to the O'Jays who took “Backstabbers“ to #1 R&B and #3 on the Hot 100, setting the standard for the sound of Philadelphia. As a result, the label put them to work providing music and lyrics for the Philadelphia International label stable of artists. However, the more “gas they put into other artists tanks“ made them want to give themselves a career as recording artists, which was opposed by Gamble and Huff.
