Afshin Torabi, a virtuoso guitarist of Persian descent, embarked on his musical journey at the age of 10 when his father, Naser Torabi, presented him with his first classical guitar. Under his father's guidance, Afshin delved into the intricacies of music theory and harmonic studies, laying the foundation for his future endeavors. His formal education began at the esteemed Gnessin Music College in Moscow, where he refined his skills under the tutelage of renowned Russian guitarists Alexander Vinitsky and Nikita Koshkin. Continuing his pursuit of excellence, Afshin furthered his studies at the Conservatoire de musique de Québec, under the mentorship of Rémi Boucher, before earning both a master's and a doctorate in interpretation from Laval University. Throughout his academic journey, he benefited from the guidance of esteemed professors such as Richard Paré, Rémi Boucher, and Michel Cardin. Dedicated to continuous growth, Afshin pursued postdoctoral studies at the University of Moncton, mentored by Michel Cardin, and later served as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Toronto, collaborating with Jeffrey McFadden. In 2022, he embarked on his second postdoctoral journey at UQAM University in Montreal, under the guidance of Dr. Isabell Héroux, focusing on a commendable project aimed at developing a didactic tool for teaching baroque music to contemporary guitarists. Afshin's artistic prowess has graced international stages, captivating audiences in London, Quebec, Montreal, Moscow, Istanbul, and cities across Iran. His performances at prestigious events such as the Fajr Festival in Tehran, the Istanbul International Festival, and the World International Guitar Festival in Canada have garnered global recognition. Notably, venues like the BBC in London have witnessed his captivating performances. In addition to his artistic endeavors, Afshin is passionate about sharing his knowledge with aspiring musicians. He has delivered lectures at esteemed universities including Tehran University, Montreal University, Laval University, and Toronto University, enriching the academic community with his expertise. Among his notable accomplishments is the recording of Sylvius Leopold Weiss, guided by Richard Paré, which earned admiration from esteemed musicians such as Andreas Koch, Göran Söllscher, and Rémi Boucher.
