Biological systems are also intricate. Irving Langmuir, who coined the term ’plasma’ in 1923, noted the equilibrium of an electrical discharge acting as a layer carrying high-velocity electrons, molecules and ions of gas impurities—the same way blood plasma carries around red and white cells, proteins, hormones and germs. Complex systems reflexively organize into discontinuous forms, like plasma discharge instabilities. This intrinsic feature is called Emergent Order. It is distinct from ideas of imposed order such as creationism or intelligent design. When Newtonian dynamics replaced Ptolemaic kinematics—previously accepted knowledge was discarded.
