Let's continue our journey in making a 1690s ensemble worthy of Winifred Sanderson! Since the 17th century is so often forgotten when it comes to fashion, we're giving it a little love. It's an era of silk trains, elegant drapery, and ruffled sleeves- all in the package of a loose and comfy robe! Our second video is all about 17th century mantua gown- the first time women in the trades took over gown making! It's an unusual type of dress that gave me quite a challenge. So let's explore how this garment would have been made (completely sewn by hand!). But first, let's take a look at the Hocus Pocus film costumes and dive into their inspirations. Mary, Sarah, and Winifred Sanderson all have their origins in fairy tales and mythology, but have a few surprises up their sleeves! They certainly aren't your typical 17th century witches.
