The Hohner Guitaret was by all accounts a failure. Designed for “heiße Rhythmen“, “hot rhythms“ to replace the guitar in jazz and dance bands of the 1960s, it never took hold. Not many of these lamellophones were made as a result, and even less survive. Nevertheless it found a cult following by musicians embracing its muted and melancholic tone. In this video I play it, open it up to reveal how it works and explore it's ambient potential.
