This is a video about the Yokut people of California, their culture, their past, the genocide and a little touch on their future. Most of it is suitable for the classroom but there are parts that discuss genocide and that might not fit your objectives. The first part is about the culture, the old times and a little middle part of what they suffered during 1850-1900. I did try to present the information to hit the standards but also spark some curiosity so kids would like to go digging further. TO FIND OUT MORE, VISIT Here is some share some additional information . The surviving Yokuts are as followed; Tachi Yokuts, Tule River Yokuts, Table Mountain Yokuts, Chukchansi Yokuts, Wukchumni Yokuts, Chulomni Yokuts, and Tulumne Yokuts. From a commenter, “Typically we are identified as Northern Yokuts, Southern Yokuts and Foothill Yokuts. We do in fact have ceremonies and practice them today however to your point a lot of those ceremonies were nearly extinct because of the “Gold Rush Genocide“ and “Indian Boarding School System“. Today we are making every effort to revitalize our traditional ways and properly educating our youth about our history and cultural identity. I've attached links for your review to increase your knowledge as it relates to Yokuts. Thanks again for your presentation.“
