A University of Kansas (KU) lecturer has been placed on leave after a viral video showed him suggesting men who refuse to vote for a female president should be executed. Phillip Lowcock, a lecturer in Health, Sport & Exercise Sciences, stated that men who refuse to vote for a female presidential candidate should be “shot.“ “There are going to be some males in our society that will refuse to vote for a potential female president because they don’t think females are smart enough to be president,“ he said in the video posted on Wednesday. “We can line all those guys up and shoot them. They clearly don’t understand the way the world works.” He quickly realised he was being recorded and quipped, “Scratch that from the recording, I don’t want the dean hearing that I said that“. On Wednesday, KU said it was made “aware“ of the video, and called Lowcock’s remarks “inappropriate“. They added that Lowcock regretted his comments, explaining that he was trying to advocate for women’s rights but executed it poorly. “The instructor offers his sincerest apologies and deeply regrets the situation. His intent was to emphasize his advocacy for women’s rights and equality, and he recognizes he did a very poor job of doing so,“ the KU statement read. “The instructor is being placed on administrative leave, pending further investigation.“
