Blue Poppies: Meconopsis - They are almost Scotland’s national flower! Although they come from the Himalayas and China, they are very much at home in Scotland as they like plenty of rain and cool summers… sound familiar? The amazing blue (or white or purple) flowers open in early June. Don’t be tempted to plant them if they are coming into flower: they are best planted small with no flowering stems so they persist and flower the following year. Go for bold drifts or plant them in between shrubs such as rhododendrons.
