Saito Kinen Festival, Japan - 1992 Julie Taymor filmed this very uniqe, stunning opera-oratorio. Jean Cocteau's narration is spoken by an incredibly suggestive japanese actress. As Stravinsky intended, Sophocles' text obviously sung in latin. The Speaker: Kayoko Shiraishi Oedipus: Philip Langridge Jocasta: Jessye Norman Creon: Bryn Terfel Oedipus's alterego: Min Tanaka Conductor: Seiji Ozawa With Hungarian subtitles. I recorded it cca. 25 years ago on a VHS tape(!) from the Hungarian Television. For better sound & picture please find:
