The boss of the Wagner group of mercenaries said Russia has captured Bakhmut to 'the last centimetre' and that President Volodymyr Zelensky was either lying or ignorant that it hadn't been seized. “There is not a single Ukrainian soldier in Bakhmut as we have stopped taking prisoners,“ said Yevgeny Prigozhin, whose fighters have spearheaded Russia's advance on Bakhmut. “There are a huge number of corpses of Ukrainian soldiers.“ His comments came amid contradictory statements from Ukraine on where the fighting stood in the city. President Zelensky denied Russia was in control of the eastern city after making earlier statements that suggested otherwise. He declined to share precise details but insisted the city was “not occupied“ by Russia “as of today“.
