New version of this video here: You can tell this video is old because I still have Skype pinned on my task bar. So Model Creator for Game Maker is nice, but suppose you want to use a more qualified 3D model editor for use with Game Maker. For that you need a way to load a file format such as an .obj model into Game Maker. This was written for Game Maker Studio 2, but can work in Game Maker Studio 1 and can be adapted for even earlier versions, if you're still using those. Here's the code. I've updated the repository to take care of some common issues; see the pinned comment. See also: Note that .obj models do not support animation. To make use of animation, you need to use a different format such as .fbx, which (as far as I know) only one person has attempted as of my writing this. I may do a tutorial on that at a later date, as well. More on 3D in GameMaker Studio 2: 0:00 Introduction 1:17 I can't believe I left this in a video that got watched by like thirteen thousand people 2:30 Structure of an OBJ file 4:08 Admissions of incompetence 4:13 Setting up for reading the file 5:53 Reading the attribute data out of the file 12:08 Reading the face data 17:13 Building the vertex buffers 21:33 Finding and fixing a typos 22:45 Fun times with the up vector 25:58 Videos for another day, and ending remarks #GameMaker3D #GameMakerOBJ - - - - - I've now made that Patreon: That promised social media link spam.
