One of the amazing sights captured at Sulfur Cauldron during the Submarine Ring of Fire 2006 expedition was Tonguefish swimming out on the crusted-over surface of the molten sulfur pond! These fish live on the adjacent slopes of the volcano in hydrothermal areas, but to see them on the sulfur pond was mind-boggling! Why would they do that?! Footage collected by the Jason remotely operated vehicle, which is operated by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as part of the National Deep Submergence Facility which is jointly funded by the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, and NOAA.
