It’s getting to that time of year where those that are inclined to make lists should be wary of committing too hard, lest something drop to capsize those tidy rankings. Well, here is an album that will capsize more than just your album lists – it will invert and crack open your head! Releasing through Signal Rex who have given a home to many of the experimental and straight up genius projects from these artists, AVRÆ LVNÆ is one from the former end of the spectrum - the self-described ‘neon black metal’ of Wampyric Strigoi - mainman of Wampyric Rites, Grymmstalt, Winterstorm, and Dungeon Steel, with drummer Eblis Destructor and Geist der Natur on guitar and bass. This title track offers a mere glimpse into the psychedelic synthesis of classic cosmic and medieval black metal this album corrupts and enchants the listener with. Immersing you in a weaving spell of kaleidoscopic detours through climactic peaks of transcendent mysticism; raw elevated primitivism illuminating riffs powered to the farther reaches on star-powered synths. I’ve had this one on heavy repeat, and you should prepare your mind for a cosmic realignment when the spaceship lands on 8th December. The album is available to order now from Signal Rex on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.
