Tonyukuk, born c. 646, died c. 726, known as Tonyukuk the Wise, was the adviser of four Turkic Khagans, a successful conqueror and general, and called a “kingmaker“ by historians. The lyrics are taken from the Tonyukuk inscription, now found in Mongolia, the oldest written attestation of the Old Turkic language, preceding the Orkhon inscription by many years. Modern Anatolian Turkish translation of the lyrics: Bilge Tonyukuk ben kendim, Tabgaç ilinde doğdum.
