Isaac Stern violin The Capricho Vasco op. 24 de Pablo de Sarasate uses popular Spanish melodies. Sarasate dedicated this work to the composer, conductor and pianist Otto Goldschmidt, a disciple of Mendelssohn. the Capricho Vasco is influenced by the typical rhythm of the 'Zorcico', a Basque dance in tempo 5/8. The work is touching, expressive and exclusive for virtuosos of the violin. Although the Capricho Vasco does not belong to the series of Spanish Dances published by Pablo de Sarasate between 1878 and 1882, the Capricho Vasco for violin and piano, composed in 1881, is within the same musical and chronological line. In the Capricho Vasco it is not only the genre and the form that are taken from Spanish folklore, the traditional melodies of the region are included in the work. The Capricho Vasco is built in two parts, the first consisting of a Moderato in D minor.
