Indian classical dancer Leela Samson performs Alarippu Bharatanatyam dance. The word Alarippu means “a flowering bud.“ It is an innovatory piece meaning it is performed before a dancer begins a whole performance. In the beginning of the performance statue of Lord Nataraja depicts, the divine manifestation of Lord Shiva, assumed as the Lord of Dance especially in Bharatanatyam. Leela Samson is among India's most dynamic and technically brilliant dancers, an outstanding representative of Kalakshetra, the famed institute for the classical arts founded by the late Rukmini Devi Arundale on the Chennai ocean front.
