A myxoma is a rare, usually noncancerous, primary tumor (a new growth of tissue) of the heart. It is the most common of all benign heart tumors, but a rare surgical procedure to witness. Here, Dr. Denton Cooley, Surgeon-in-Chief of the Texas Heart Institute performs the removal of a large myxoma. This video is in two parts. This part details the removal of the myxoma, examination of the mitral valve and repair of the atrial septum with a Dacron patch. Camera: John Lynch Director: George Avgerakis, Avek
