There are a lot of traditional foods to try in Belarus and, in this video, we’re eating them for the very first time! We stop into Vasilki Restaurant in Minsk. It’s a popular chain restaurant recommended to us by a local friend that serves tons of beloved Belarusian dishes. The staff are really friendly and helpful - highly recommend! Everyone tells us we have to try draniki (potato pancakes) and the way to eat them in Belarus is with thick gravy. Solyanka is a very hearty traditional soup that’s perfect for cold winter days and nights. Our absolute favourite is babka, a potato dish with a delightfully bouncy texture that soothes the soul. We also discover birch juice - yes, made from birch trees! - which is said to improve your hair and skin. To end our first Belarusian meal, of course we have to try dessert and it doesn’t disappoint.
